7 Aqui vamos Braziu

Leaving from Iquitos to Santa Rosa.

As I learn, nowadays, there are no direct connections Iquitos-Manaus. In the caoutchouc time there was.

One should go to Santa Rosa and from there cross the river to Colombia (Letícia) or Brazil (Tabatinga).

The boat prices depend on the company’s and the week day. For example I took Eduardo on Wednesday for 130soles. The same company leaves Monday and fridays but this former day are more expensive. Other companies were in general more expensive.

The agencies are close to the Plaza de armas like 3 blocs away.

This boat was pretty nice, clean and modern but terrible seats. My butt hurts.

The old crappy seats of the other companies were finally more comfy :).

Here they serve you coffee and free sandwich.

In the boat I talk with a guy, engineer in construction. We talk a lot about the corruption. We talk in general and also in his domain. Where, he explained me, you have the classic over facturación and other case when politicians ask a study of construction feasibility and the answer is no. In this former case, if he says no, for example a road where the soil is too humid, a politician will always find some colleague that will sign the project.

He said he is profesional and never accept but unfortunately it happens too often.

Along the river it was funny to spot a community where all woman’s were wearing long skirts. It is impressive that in a so small scale but a substantial separation humans have already developed different community behaviors.

Like the “Israëlites” I saw in Ecuador.

Then we stopped a couple of times and some women had “voiles”.

I saw and recognized the typical tourist reaction when two Italians arrived at the port in Santa Rosa. They were stressed by all the people (taxi) at the port and repulsed them. I may have been like that in my first travels, in my 20s. Now I just answer politely. I am just not stress about these things.
